The fit, the material and the workmanship are crucial. Modern traditional costume borrows from historical or regional models, but does not copy them. An urban Trachtenlook is worn, with the same naturalness as other clothing, according to the occasion. LODENFREY combines tradition with modernity and focuses on unexpected colors or new silhouettes.
There are no major changes in our current Trachtenlooks, because high-quality leather pants are a timeless investment. The color green in various shades from sage, olive to rosemary dominates Jankern and vests, and blue is also on the fashion rise.
For knitwear, the predominant colors are blue, green and natural.
In the 2023 season of traditional costumes, we carry at LODENFREY a deerskin trousers from Meindl, which was created in collaboration with the city of Munich and is strictly limited. In addition, our customers will find the beer coachman vest in night blue or black from Grasegger, with a hand-sewn border different colors
The general rule is: less is more - but used correctly, accessories can demonstrate a sense of trend and style. The hat is making a comeback. It can be styled individually - for example with a chamois beard or pins. Stockings for traditional costumes must be knee-high and may be striking in terms of color. Haferl shoes complement the traditional look for men and continue to be chosen to light as well as dark leather pants mainly in classic black. If you want to add a great piece of jewelry to your look, you can wear a luxurious charivari.
A shirt in white, or alternatively with stripes is always a good choice. Shirts with stand-up collars are on the rise, connoisseurs also reach for slip shirts. The vest is indispensable in my view, it rounds off the look and the wearer is well dressed with it even without Janker.
The leather pants must fit tightly and should end above the kneecap. Since leather gives way when worn, the leather pants should be bought rather smaller felt. In detail, however, this depends on the leather itself. Deerskin trousers, tanned with chamois (6-8 weeks in cod liver oil), will give way by about one size when worn, while goatskin trousers will only widen a little and should be bought to fit.
The basic color of the pants should be rather light and the color tone of the stick should be matched to it (stitch-toned). Avoid striking colors in the leather.
The short models are made of fine goatskin and have traditional embroidery in fashionable colors. Three natural tones from beige to brown give the traditional costume a fresh touch.
If you're going to the Trachtenfest, lederhosen are a must, there's no alternative. For other home-related occasions, where traditional costume is also worn, a fashionable mix-and-match look can be combined: Like shirt and janker with suit trousers, jeans or chinos.
Traditional costume is ageless, that's the beauty of it. Younger people like to wear it tighter and crisp or dare to wear flashy colors, while older people prefer it traditional and more comfortable. The choice and variety of silhouettes and colors is huge.
