BRUNELLO CUCINELLI

Brunello Cucinelli was born in 1953 and grew up in Castel Rigone in the province of Perugia. In 1978, he was overcome with the idea of offering cashmere in a variety of shades and founded a small company with knitting machines. From his childhood, he learned the importance of working in a moral and dignified environment and developed a unique, ethical concept of work. After his marriage to Federica Benda and the birth of his two daughters, Camilla and Carolina, Cucinelli moved to Solomeo in 1982 to make his dreams come true and become an entrepreneur and humanitarian. The increasingly international market welcomed the quality of his products and allowed him to put his ideas into practice. In 1985 Brunello Cucinelli bought a 14th century castle and made it his headquarters. In 2000, to meet the growing demand of the market, he acquired and renovated existing facilities at the foot of the Solomeo hill instead of building new ones. The new buildings in the Solomeo Art Forum, including a neo-humanist library, a high school, an amphitheater and a theater became the ideal place for culture and art, and almost every resident of the small town is now employed in some capacity by Brunello Cucinelli. The company's desire to go public did not come about for financial reasons, but rather was an opportunity to advance Cucinelli's ideals of "humanistic capitalism."
