MAX MARA

Italian chic and fashionable classics

When Achille Maramotti completed his law degree in 1951, he decided to spend the rest of his life pursuing his great passion, haute couture. A passion that has been anchored in the family history since the late 19th century, when Marina Rinaldi ran a luxury fashion house in Reggio Emilia. His desire was to produce high-quality women's clothing. At a time when fashion was still exclusively an artisanal activity, his idea was extremely avant-garde. The first collection, consisting of a camel coat and a red suit, follows clear ideals: precise, clean cuts and clear lines. French-inspired designs reinvented through the lens of traditional Italian style - an instant success.

The label through the ages

In the 1960s, Max Mara expanded both its production techniques and its collection. In addition to the typical double-breasted coats, there were small collections that included both elegant suits and more sporty lines. During these years, the design team was also expanded and outstanding personalities such as Luciano Soprani, Lison Bonfis, Graziella Fontana and Emanuelle Khan worked together on the development of the collections and new lines such as "Pop" and "My Fair". A decade later, the collaborations included Anne-Marie Beretta, Nanni Strada, Guy Paulin, Jacques Delahaye, Jean Charles de Castelbajac and others. All contributors increased the value of the brand - without any self-promotion - by following the brand's philosophy.

Sportmax was a new concept aimed at young women who wanted to individualize their look.
In the 80s, one of the Maison's symbols was created, the double-breasted 10181 coat, designed by Anne-Marie Beretta with cashmere kimono sleeves - a bestseller that is still offered in every winter collection.

With its other lines such as Max Mara Studio'S Max Mara or Weekend by Max Mara, the company is aimed at young, trend-conscious women and features fashion classics such as trouser suits, coats and sweaters in these collections.
