The company RIKA produced fashion and sports gloves in the 60s and gained a lot of attention. The glove models enjoyed great popularity and so RIKA became the official glove supplier of the national teams of Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein during the 1964 Winter Olympics. Innovative inventions for more freedom of movement as well as the modern design and a wide range of colours enabled the company to firmly establish itself. After the death of company founder Erwin Riemer, the glove business experiences a difficult time. Skilled workers and Austrian glove makers become rare and traditional knowledge is lost. The new owners of RIKA ask Riemers son, Thomas Riemer, for help and transfer the business to him. However, after a short time the new owner has to realize that the gloves of his French and Italian manufacturers often do not fit the Swiss customers. He goes in search of former retired employees in Hungary who show great interest in working for RIKA again. The home production in Hungary is soon so successful that other Viennese glove shops also want to be supplied. Thomas Riemer founds his own production company in Hungary in 2009 and hires two cutters as well as 5 glove seamstresses and some elderly ladies to sew delicate hand seams at home. The company now produces its own gloves again under the brand Riemer and sells them all over the world. Within a few years, the label has been restored to old-fashioned fame and notoriety and now sells its handmade gloves in more than 150 stores. On hundred-year-old sewing machines and tools and with the help of basic templates from the 60s, the manufactory Riemer still produces its unique leather gloves today.
