The company Hammerschmid was founded in 1951 by Karl Hammerschmid as a company for yard goods, tablecloths and cloths with Bavarian motifs. Shortly afterwards, his two sons joined the company, which is headquartered - as it is today - in Marquartstein. Just 15 years later, the company achieved a turnover in the millions and expanded its range to include ready-to-wear items such as blouses, dresses and shirts. All designs were created by Heinz Hammerschmid himself. From the 1980s onwards, tablecloths and yard goods disappeared from the range and the first traditional costume collection for ladies and gentlemen was added. To this day, Hammerschmid is one of the leading manufacturers of sporty traditional costume fashion in Germany and Austria. Handicraft, tradition and modernity are still the focus of the company and so it is not surprising that the company still has its own tailoring shop in Marquartstein.
