WOOLRICH
The traditional company Woolrich can look back on almost 200 years of success and has made a name for itself like no other label with its unmistakable down parkas.
From a spinning mill to a global company
As early as 1830, John Rich, an English immigrant, founded his own spinning mill in Pennsylvania to sell woolen goods. Only 15 years later, a new spinning mill was opened due to steadily growing sales. The location near a nearby river and the construction of the railroad in Pennsylvania guaranteed steady growth for the company. Woolrich The company, then still known as John Rich, increasingly established itself as a manufacturer of robust workwear and enjoyed great popularity among workers thanks to its checked flannel shirts, robust wool pullovers, weatherproof jackets and parkas as well as functional vests. In 1852, the company was renamed John Rich and Son, as his son joined the flourishing business as a partner. When John Rich Junior's sons joined the company, the name was changed again in 1888 to Woolrich John Rich & Bros. Due to its steadily growing success, Woolrich expanded its range and from 1920 also offered fashionable leisurewear such as swimwear and casual pants. In the 20th century, the Woolrich brand finally made the leap into leisurewear and increasingly distanced itself from the production of purely workwear. From then on, the collections focused on functional, sporty and high-quality outdoor clothing. Thanks to the development of new synthetic materials, Woolrich was now able to expand its product range and offer functional, innovative outdoor fashion for sport and leisure in addition to conventional jackets and coats made of wool. In the 1960s, Woolrich became one of the most popular brands and continued to enjoy great popularity ten years later with the introduction of down jackets and coats. Materials such as GoreTex and Thinsulate were also introduced as new products.
The Arctic Parka as a trademark par excellence
If you think of Woolrich today, the Arctic Parka for men, women and children, which was introduced in 1972 and has enjoyed ever-increasing popularity ever since, immediately springs to mind. With its down filling, weather-resistant outer material and chic fur collar, no other product has such a high recognition value. Over the years, different materials, cuts and other details have allowed the range to grow to include other models such as the Luxury Arctic Parka, the Arctic Parka HC and the Arctic Parka DF, all of which bear the label's unmistakable signature. But other outerwear products such as coats, winter jackets, down coats & jackets or parkas as well as accessories, outerwear, pants and, more recently, shoes are also part of the range of the now Italian-American-run company and contribute to the very special, historically influenced yet timelessly modern style of Woolrich.
Quality standards for discerning customers
The original idea of creating robust workwear for cold days is still reflected in the designs today. Nowadays, this also includes the use of new, better insulating technologies and other advances in order to constantly convince and win over customers. GoreTex, Thinsulate, Teton and Teflon Shield are just some of the many technical features that make parkas, jackets and coats particularly breathable, waterproof, windproof and dirt-repellent, making them robust yet stylish companions in wind and weather. Strict animal welfare standards and a meticulous selection of furs, down and feathers have also been standard in the selection and design of existing and new products for years, ensuring a holistic and environmentally conscious approach to natural products. Functionality, high quality, an awareness of nature and animal welfare as well as exclusive, luxurious design go hand in hand and ensure that the collections for women, men and children from Woolrich will continue to be an integral part of the world of outerwear in the future.
